The Bermuda Heart Foundation is a dedicated charitable organization that has been actively promoting heart health care and awareness on the island for over 20 years. We have worked tirelessly to improve the quality of heart health care and educate Bermudians about the dangers of heart disease and related illnesses.
According to the Department of Health's Well Bermuda strategy, 64% of Bermudians have one or more risk factors for heart disease, such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes, or high cholesterol. If left unmanaged, heart disease is expected to overwhelm our healthcare system. As the leading cause of death, with 1 in 3 fatalities attributed to the disorder, heart disease remains a significant concern.
To address this epidemic, the Bermuda Heart Foundation recognizes the need for a new approach. We continue to focus on increasing heart health awareness through education programs and interactive initiatives.
We are proud of our accomplishments, including opening the island's first cardiac prevention and rehabilitation center, providing free life-saving health screenings to over 2750 people this year, offering healthy cooking classes, funding students in heart-related fields, and introducing the Jump 2b Fit healthy schools program with 14 schools and over 300 students enrolled. We have also made cardiac prevention an insurable benefit with Argus, Colonial, and BF&M insurance companies.
The Bermuda Heart Foundation is committed to improving the heart health of Bermuda. We rely on your support to continue our important work. We have achieved a lot in advocating and educating our community about heart disease, and we look forward to continuing our efforts within our community. Our mission is to strengthen the heartbeat of Bermuda by advocating change through awareness, prevention, and education, supporting and guiding patients and their families, promoting prevention and recovery through innovative therapy, and playing a leading role in the fight against heart disease in Bermuda.
